Teacher Induction Workshop

Annually, in March, Lowell presents a one-day workshop designed to help school jurisdictions design and implement an Induction program. Participants are provided with a binder of materials that can be used to tailor a program that will best meet their individual needs. This program has proven to be most successful when a “team” of Central Office staff have attended. By the end of the day, these teams are well on their way to drafting an induction program that they can implement the following August.

If you can identify with one of the comments below, this workshop is for YOU:

· I am not sure if our School Jurisdiction needs a teacher induction program
· I know that our School Jurisdiction needs a teacher induction program but I am unsure of how to go about setting up a program
· Our School Jurisdiction currently has a teacher induction program but we are looking for ways to improve and make it more effective

Fact:

Over 30% of new teachers in Alberta and 50% of new teachers in the US leave teaching within the first five years of graduating from University. This represents a huge waste of resources, both in terms of lost money and lost human potential. An effective induction program can decrease attrition rates by up to 25%.

What is Teacher Induction?

Induction is a structured program that is designed to help new teachers transition into a school jurisdiction. As well, it will guide new teachers in their development as they become more proficient in their profession. It is a comprehensive program consisting of a number of components that must begin before the first day of school and should continue for two or more years.

What You Will Learn by Attending This Workshop:

While most Central Office Administrators understand the need for induction, they often are not sure of how to get started. Lowell will provide a format and template that will help get you started and quickly up to speed with other jurisdictions that have spent years developing their programs. After researching and visiting some of the most successful programs in the world, Lowell has developed a practical, hands-on workshop that will provide you with the necessary ideas and strategies for developing a program tailored to your needs.

All attendees will be provided with a binder and DVD that contains sample materials of all of the tools and documents referenced in the sessions.
